About the event

Dream The Impossible Presents

Dreamers Changing the Narrative,

This event is one within a series of events done this year by non-profit organization Dream The Impossible started by 6 year NFL veteran safety and current San Francisco 49er. DTI was started by Doug Middleton after the loss of his best friend to suicide after suffering from severe depression. Dream The Impossible was a organization created to eradicate the stigma around Mental Health in our communities. Through speaking engagements, community events, and youth development we work to accomplish our mission.

Each year the NFL gives their players an opportunity to bring attention to a cause they feel passionate about by designing their cleats in reflection of that organization, the program is called “My Cause My Cleats”. Carolina Panthers safety Juston Burris has once again selected Dream The Impossible and mental health as his devoted cause. We are very thankful for this opportunity to not only bring more attention to Dream The Impossible but more importantly towards mental health and helping out student athletes. Nearly half of American youth struggle with a mental illness before turning 18 and 12 percent experience a bout of depression according an article written by theAtlantic. The Charlotte community has seen first hand the impact of mental health on our students as Mooresville and Hopewell high school have both loss kids to suicide in the last few months.

Because of the impact on our community Dream The Impossible, WAI, and Juston Burris have decided to put together this event for December 12. We will be bringing together 20 student athletes in the charlotte community that are willing to make their mental health a priority. This event will include Suicide Prevention QPR training, Police intervention training with CMPD, and Career Development preparation with Gardhouse. Following this event, we will be taking the student athletes to the Panthers game against the Falcons to watch football at its highest level. In order to Dream you have to visualize and that’s what we plan on doing for the kids, providing them with an opportunity to dream! Following the game the kids will stay after to meet Juston Burris and his Carolina Panther teammates.
